11 superstars compete for the best in the world

Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, England’s Liverpool star, is in vying for the title of “best” player of the International Football Association (FIFA) awards, after being chosen on Monday in a final list of 11 players, together with the French Karim Benzema and the Italian Jorginho.

Among the nominees for the award, awarded for the first time in 2017, also the Argentine Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain, France) and the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), who are the permanent candidates, in addition to the Brazilian Neymar and the French Kylian Mbappe (Paris Sam Germain), as well as Polish contender Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich star, to keep the title.

The contract for the final list was completed by the German forward of Borussia Dortmund, the Norwegian Erling Haaland, the French Ngolo Kante of Chelsea and the Manchester City star, the Belgian Kevin De Bruyne.

Four Barcelona players have been included in the roster of best players, and they are Alexia Putillas, Jennifer Hermoso, Itana Bonmatti and Caroline Graham Hansen. Chelsea, who lost to Annan Barcelona women’s team in the Champions League final last season, are four actresses: Sam Kerr, Ji So-yun, Magdalena Eriksson and Pernel Harder.

Last year’s winner, Lucy Bronze, was named alongside England footballer Elaine White, along with Canadian Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Kristin Sinclair and Sweden’s Stena Plaxtenius.

For the award as best coach, the favorite is the German Thomas Tuchel, after having led Chelsea to the victory of the Champions League, against Roberto Mancini, architect of the victory of Italy in European Cup 2020.

Among the other candidates, the German Hansi Flick, the Spanish Pep Guardiola, the Italian Anthony Conte and the Argentines Diego Simeone and Lionel Scaloni.

The coaches and captains of the national teams participate in the vote, as well as the vote of the fans of the game and a selection of journalists.

Voting will start from November 22nd to December 10th.

Interestingly, the Ballon d’Or award, awarded by the French football magazine “France Football”, will be awarded on the 29th of this month.
