12 deaths and chaos at Kabul airport Taliban invite Afghans to leave

The chaos still continues in and around the Kabul airport, with hundreds of Afghans sleeping on the ground at night, clinging to the hope of leaving the country, after the Taliban movement had taken control.

While the movement called on the crowd to leave, especially those who do not have official documents authorizing them to travel to the United States or in other countries.

On Thursday, Taliban and NATO officials announced that 12 people had been killed in and around the airport since the movement took over the city on Sunday, prompting thousands of frightened people to flee.

A Taliban official said the deaths were caused by gunshots or a stampede and urged the crowds at the airport gates to return home if they did not have the legal right to travel.

He also stressed, according to Reuters, the movement’s enthusiasm not to harm people, saying: “We don’t want to hurt anyone. in airport”.

Since last Sunday, thousands of Afghans have gone to the airport of the capital, trying to escape, fearing the abuses that could occur by the Taliban, who have taken control of Kabul and much of the country.

Meanwhile, US forces have evacuated hundreds of US soldiers and Afghan citizens who have helped them over the past years, via military aircraft, for fear of reprisals.

And a White House official announced late Wednesday evening that US military forces have evacuated some 1,800 people on ten C-17 aircraft in the past 24 hours.

Almost six thousand people have been relocated since 14 August.

Since the beginning of this week, Afghanistan is in a state of chaos and instability following the control of the movement on the capital and the flight of President Ashraf Ghani, while the international community awaits the next steps of the Taliban.
