19-year-old Michigan State University student Lyniah Bell was accidentally injured in the head over the Christmas holidays – boyfriend goes to police

#Roommates, another young life full of promise has been interrupted due to senseless gun violence. Lyniah Bell, 19, was visiting her family over the Christmas holidays when she was tragically shot and killed by her boyfriend, who has since been guilty of the murder.

@ ABC7Chicago reports that Lyniah Bell was shot dead in an apartment located at block 8100 of South Maryland Avenue in Chatham, Chicago, on December 27. Family members say Bell spent the night in the apartment of 18-year-old Lafayette Hodges, who was her boyfriend, when he accidentally shot him in the head after playing with a loaded gun. A neighbor then called 911 after hearing the gunshot.

Hodges confessed to the murder and went to the local police station to surrender. Authorities say that when he confessed, he admitted that he had not shot Bell on purpose and that his death was accidental. In his widely distributed mugshot, you can see tears in his eyes. However, Bell’s mother tells a different story about Hodges and his relationship with his daughter, a story that she was very “worried about.”

Evelyn Hightower, Bell’s mother, said this about her daughter’s relationship with Hodges:

“It’s a shock to me that it was Lyniah and that he killed my baby probably for nothing. I told her I didn’t want her with him. But you can’t tell anyone what to do. “

Bell was on a full scholarship to Michigan State University, studying journalism. She was also a graduate of North Lawndale College Prep. and was a member of the National Honors Society during high school.

Hodges has been formally charged with manslaughter. Our prayers go out to Lyniah Bell’s loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
