Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia Remake: A Second Chance
Very big hourglass
In 2003, Ubisoft marked an entire community with a hot iron with Prince of Persia The Sands of Time, 3D reboot of her saga flagship, brilliant in its platform phases, son action and son oriental atmosphere. A true classic that should have already been released in the form of a remake, in development at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai in recent years.
Only here: the result was really not up to expectations and during the few presentations, the project was severely tackled by the web entire. Internally, it was obviously not joy either and Ubisoft has decided to repatriate development to one of its flagship branches, Ubisoft Montreal.
Until then, we did not have much news from the site: the firm corrected the shooting via an official interview with Jean-Francois Naud (producer of the game) and Michael McIntyre (director).
It’s go again
If you were expecting to see the redesign of Prince again of Persia The Sands of Time this year for example at the next Ubisoft Forward which will take place in June, unfortunately you are on the wrong track.
Regarding the development stage, we are in phase design right now. Since taking over the project, we’ve looked at community feedback and found our own way to develop the game.
From there to say that the design has been completely rebooted? Well… it actually is.
A blow for the fans but also a blessing in disguise: it is better to take the time necessary to give birth to a good game, rather than a remake laid in a hurry. After all, the longer, the better.
Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia franchise has a special place in many gamers’ hearts, especially with its original release in 2003. The game was ahead of its time in terms of platforming and combat mechanics, and its oriental aesthetic was an instant classic.
It was only natural to expect a remake of such a beloved game, and Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai had been working on one for several years. Unfortunately, the result did not meet expectations and was met with severe criticism from the gaming community.
However, Ubisoft did not give up on the project. Instead, they decided to repatriate development to Ubisoft Montreal, one of their flagship branches. Since then, the team has been in the design phase, taking community feedback into account and finding their own way to develop the game.
It is important to note that fans should not expect to see the Prince of Persia remake at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event in June. The project has undergone a complete reboot, meaning it will take more time to develop.
But this is not necessarily a bad thing. It is better to take more time to create a good game than to rush through a remake just to meet a deadline. With Ubisoft Montreal behind the project, fans can rest assured that they will deliver a high-quality game worthy of the Prince of Persia name.
