Yoko Shimomura Returns with New Track for Street Fighter 6

Yoko Shimomura Returns to Street Fighter with a Fresh Beat

Acclaimed composer Yoko Shimomura is making waves in the gaming community again, returning to the Street Fighter series for the first time in over three decades. This iconic musician has crafted a new track for Street Fighter 6, set to drop in a free update later this week.

Known for her captivating soundscapes in titles like Kingdom Hearts and Super Mario RPG, Shimomura’s work in Street Fighter 2 holds a special place in the hearts of gamers. Iconic pieces like Guile’s and Ken’s themes have become timeless classics, resonating with players even 34 years later.

What’s New in the June Update?

The upcoming patch on June 5 will introduce Shimomura’s latest composition, titled “Edge of Triumph”. Players can find this new track under the Character BGM Settings in Street Fighter 6, allowing them to assign it to specific character stages for an enhanced gaming experience.

While Shimomura previously crafted an arranged version of Dhalsim’s stage for the Street Fighter Tribute Album, this marks her first entirely new contribution to the series since the Street Fighter 2 era.

This update isn’t just about music; it also includes the highly anticipated DLC fighter, Elena, along with a balance overhaul to keep the gameplay fair and exciting. Elena, the final DLC character for Year 2, launches in tandem with the Nintendo Switch 2, which will feature a port of Street Fighter 6, including all fighters released in Years 1 and 2.

Shimomura’s recent recognition at the BAFTA Games Awards as the recipient of the BAFTA Fellowship highlights her immense contributions to the gaming industry. This prestigious award is given to those who have made extraordinary impacts, with past recipients including industry legends like Shigeru Miyamoto and Hideo Kojima. Shimomura now joins the ranks of such influential figures in gaming.
