Fortnite on Switch 2: A Game-Changing Upgrade
Epic Games has just unveiled a spectacular upgrade for Fortnite on the new Switch 2, promising a much-enhanced experience for players. As the game originally launched on the Switch back in June 2018, many gamers felt the limitations of reduced frame rates and lackluster visuals during intense online matches.
With the looming launch of Switch 2 this Thursday, players can look forward to a plethora of improvements that elevate the gaming experience, such as a higher resolution and a smoother frame rate. This isn’t just a minor tweak; it’s a complete overhaul that will redefine how fans enjoy the game.
What’s New for Players?
The Switch 2 version of Fortnite boasts a range of exciting features that were simply unavailable in the original Switch iteration:
- Seamless gameplay at 60 frames per second
- Stunning 1224p resolution when docked, dropping to 900p in handheld mode
- Improved view distances
- Enhanced textures, shadows, and water rendering
- Dynamic clothing physics
- A new replay system to capture epic moments
- Video clip capturing via the Capture button
- GameChat allows up to three friends to join the stream
- Full ‘desktop’ rendering: including high-detail geometry and shadows
- Mouse control support (upcoming)
While mouse controls won’t be available at launch, they’re set to be introduced with the game’s significant patch on June 7. Epic has promised that this feature will be exclusive to Battle Royale modes, expanding the gameplay options for serious competitors.
Players will be able to use Joy-Con 2 controllers as mouse inputs, enhancing the precision and speed needed for competitive play. The interface will include a visible cursor for seamless navigation.
Excitingly, if players log into the Switch 2 version of Fortnite before March 31, 2026, they’ll unlock an exclusive Wishing Star Emote, adding a unique collectible to their accounts.
It’s also worth noting that while most Fortnite experiences will be available on Switch 2, the beloved Save the World mode will not make the jump to the new console.
