Gamers everywhere just got hit with a major leak from Sony Interactive Studios and Firewalk Studios’ unreleased title, Concord. This early build, dubbed FWChaos, surfaced online over the weekend, claiming to be from November 14, 2023. If true, that means it was compiled just nine months ahead of its expected launch in August 2024.
Upon booting up the game, players are greeted with a login screen that’s impossible to bypass. However, the uploader has included a handy .ini file that unlocks a developer menu. This allows players to jump right to a Select Freegunner screen, though it seems no Freegunners are available for selectionâ€â€leaving fans a bit stuck. The only action available might be pausing the game, which opens up a Main Menu filled with various incomplete features.
Among the glimpses of unfinished content, players can find a partially developed Galactic Guide that showcases the game’s diverse planets, alongside a Crew section that hints at 16 playable characters with different outfits. There’s also a nonexistent Job Board featuring only placeholder text and a Store option that doesn’t function. The Settings menu offers a sneak peek into developer options, including Developer Matchmaking and a style guide for the game’s fonts.
Because Concord relies heavily on online connectivity, players currently can’t move past these screens to actually select a Freegunner. Unless some savvy enthusiasts manage to find a way to run a proper game, this build is all about exploring unfinished menus and ideas.
This leak comes on the heels of Sony’s decision just two weeks after the game’s initial release last August to pull it offline and offer refunds, citing poor player reception. At that time, Sony hinted at possible revisions for a future version. Yet, a month later, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed that the company ultimately decided against continuing with the project.
In the aftermath, Firewalk Studios was shut down, with Hulst stating that Sony would attempt to help displaced employees find roles within its global network. Founded in 2018 and acquired by Sony in 2023, Firewalk had been developing Concord for nearly eight years. The title faced tough criticism, averaging a Metacritic score of 62 on PS5 and 65 on PC, and rumored sales numbers suggested fewer than 25,000 copies flew off the virtual shelves.
