Marriage to Childhood Sweetheart

David Corenswet has been married to fellow actress Julia Warner, 34, since March 2023, but their love story began long before then.

The couple met as teenagers at a summer theatre program in Pennsylvania. In an interview with People, he described their romance as a “slow burn,” leaving fans curious about when their friendship blossomed into love.

They exchanged vows in a beautiful interfaith ceremony in New Orleans, blending Corenswet’s Jewish heritage with Warner’s Catholic traditions.

Warner is also making her mark in the industry, having appeared in the Sarah Paulson-led horror series Ratched and earning a spot alongside Alec Baldwin in the upcoming film The Cutting Room Floor.

First Child

Corenswet and Warner recently welcomed their first child, a daughter, born at the beginning of 2024. The couple has chosen to keep her out of the public eye, staying tight-lipped about her name. Still, the actor recently shared with Access Hollywood that he possesses pictures of her donning a miniature Superman outfit.

He confided in People, “I feel like I’ve been a dad for a long time, just waiting for a kid to prove it.”

“My dad was an enthusiastic father and stayed home with my sister for a period when she was very little, and he was very good with kids,” Corenswet shared. “I think I just inherited that. I liked being a camp counselor, and I have terrible jokes that nobody laughs at.”

Getting Into Shape

As for the physical demands of portraying a superhero, Corenswet revealed a more relaxed approach to his fitness regimen in an interview with Men’s Journal. He managed to bulk up by about 40 pounds (18 kg) to embody his superhuman role, yet he set firm boundaries with his trainer regarding a specific dietary preference.

“I just said to hi’Eating a bowl of cereal makes me a better person. I’m nicer, I’m easier-going’,” he said. “I could not eat cereal for a year, but I’d just be a little less joyful and a little edgier. That’s not a sacrifice Superman would make.”

He added, “Superman’s the kind of guy who’d say, ‘Oh, you want washboard abs? Here, have a couple bowls of cereal.’ Maybe I was just letting myself off the hook, but I think there’s something real in that.”

Famous Relative

Although David Corenswet may not fit the mold of the so-called “nepo babies” in Hollywood, he indeed has notable connections within the entertainment industry. His father, John Corenswet, carved out a name for himself as a stage actor before pivoting to law.

However, it’s his maternal grandfather who’s left an indelible mark on American pop culturEdward Packard, the renowned author behind the groundbreaking Choose Your Own Adventure book series that captured the imaginations of young readers from the 1970s onward.

Reflecting on how his family background influences his portrayal of Superman, Corenswet observed, “I believe there’s more to the idea of making choices not solely based on the outcomes you’re trying to achieve but rather on the principles that guide you through life.”

He added, “Even if a choice leads to an undesirable outcome, you can still take pride in making the right choice. That’s a core part of who Superman is—less concerned with outcomes and more focused on doing what he knows is right.”

Superman hits UK cinemas Friday, 11th July.
