Apple’s latest update, iOS 18.4, has rolled out an exciting feature that is sure to spice up your dinner planning. With a brand new dedicated Food section in the Apple News app, discovering delicious meals has never been easier. If you’re like many users exploring new culinary delights, this is a game changer.
What is Apple News Food?
The Apple News Food section offers a treasure trove of curated recipes from established sources like Good Housekeeping and Food & Wine. This new feature not only allows users to browse and search but also lets you filter through tens of thousands of recipes with fresh content added daily.
How do I access Apple News Food?
Getting to the Food section is straightforward:
1. Open the News app.
2. Tap the magnifying glass icon in the bottom-right corner.
3. Select Food.
Once you’re there, you’ll find options for a Recipe Catalog and your Saved Recipes at the top, alongside a scrolling feed of enticing recipes and articles.
And if you’re in search-mode, just tap the spoon-and-grid icon to dive into the Recipe Catalog. Save any recipe by selecting it and tapping Save to easily revisit later.
How much does Apple News Food cost?
The great news? Accessing the Food section is free! However, the free version limits you to a selection of stories and recipes each day. Users might find a few gems like million dollar sausage balls or a cucumber-avocado-tomato sandwich, but the real bounty becomes available with a subscription. If you opt for Apple News Plus at $13 a month or the premier tier of Apple One for $38 a month, you’ll unlock a vast library of recipes, a digital cookbook for saving your favorites, and the ability to browse offline.
What else does Apple News Food offer?
One standout feature within the Apple News Food section is Cook Mode. This mode displays step-by-step cooking instructions one at a time, ensuring your focus stays on the task at hand. While you have to tap to move to the next step—a detail that can be a bit inconvenient if your hands are messy—it prevents your iPhone from dimming, making it easier to follow along without constant interruptions.
In Cook Mode, you can also view the entire list of ingredients for each recipe. This is perfect for grocery shopping, eliminating the need for tedious note-taking. Unfortunately, there’s no option to copy and paste the ingredient list into another app, a limitation if you need to share it with someone picking up items at the store.
To activate Cook Mode, simply tap a recipe you want to try in the app and then hit Cook.
As we embrace these fresh updates in Apple News and beyond, users can relish the convenience and enjoyment of cooking with newfound inspiration at their fingertips.
