Meta has officially entered the autonomous AI market with the launch of Muse, a “personal superintelligence” designed to execute complex digital tasks on behalf of users. Launched on September 8, 2026, the tool represents a significant shift for the company, moving beyond simple chat interactions to perform multi-step actions such as booking travel, negotiating monthly bills, and filling out medical forms.
The agent is available in the United States to users aged 18 and over. It can be accessed via a standalone mobile app, web browsers, and through Meta’s existing WhatsApp ecosystem. Unlike previous AI iterations focused on content generation, Muse is built to interact with third-party platforms, including Gmail, Ticketmaster, and OpenTable, to complete transactions and schedule appointments without direct manual input at every step.

Security and Transaction Protocols
To address the privacy risks associated with autonomous agents, Meta has implemented a tiered security architecture. The system relies on a secondary monitoring agent called “Sentinel.” This secondary AI acts as a supervisor, pausing the process and requiring explicit user approval before Muse can finalize high-risk actions, such as transferring large sums of money or uploading sensitive personal documents.
Financial transactions are handled through a partnership with Link by Stripe. When a user instructs Muse to make a purchase—such as buying groceries or event tickets—the system generates one-time-use virtual card numbers. This mechanism ensures that the user’s primary credit card details are never exposed to the third-party vendor or stored in a way that could be compromised during a breach.
Infrastructure and Pricing
Muse is powered by the Muse Spark 1.3 foundation model, which was released concurrently with the agent. While a standard version of the service is available for free, Meta has introduced two paid tiers to manage the heavy compute requirements of autonomous tasks. A “Professional” tier is priced at $20 per month, while a high-usage tier for power users and enterprise tasks costs $100 per month.
The scale of this launch is reflected in the company’s financial strategy. According to Meta Investor Relations, the company’s estimated capital expenditure for 2026 is projected between $125 billion and $145 billion, with a significant portion of that investment diverted toward AI infrastructure and the specialized hardware required to run agentic models at scale.
For daily users, the immediate utility of Muse lies in its ability to handle “digital chores.” According to reporting on the rollout, the agent can autonomously browse the web to find the best prices for travel or household services and then execute the booking once the user confirms the choice. This shift toward “action-oriented” AI places Meta in direct competition with other tech giants racing to develop reliable digital assistants that can navigate the open web rather than remaining confined to a single app’s ecosystem.
