EA Sports has released the NHL 27 update, version 1.010 (1.010.000), for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This September 10, 2026, patch restores granular Commissioner control to Connected Franchise and introduces AI-assisted commentary depth for the broadcast team.
Connected Franchise and Commissioner Tools
A primary focus of this update is the restoration of league management options. Commissioners in Connected Franchise modes can now manually apply “Force OT Win” and “Force SO Win” results. These tools provide league organizers with the authority to manage game outcomes that require specific overtime or shootout designations.
Gameplay Adjustments and X-Factor Fixes
The update introduces a change to Manual Passing, which now incorporates user-controlled power based on button-hold duration. This shift allows for greater passing expression and speed control, as the power is determined by the duration of the button hold.
EA Sports has also addressed a mechanical bug involving the “Truculence” X-Factor. Previously, players hit by an opponent using this X-Factor could trigger unintended “winded” getup animations. This fix ensures that players are not taken out of the play longer than intended by a specific attribute.
AI Commentary and Presentation Updates
According to EA Sports, the broadcast experience now utilizes AI voice technology for John Buccigross and Darren Pang. Developed with the commentators’ consent, this system is intended to expand commentary variety and improve reaction speed to dynamic on-ice events.
Visual presentation has been expanded with authentic Jumbotron content for 23 NHL teams. This includes specific assets for the Boston Bruins and the Utah Mammoth. Other visual and equipment updates include:
- Updated center-ice artwork for the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings to match current season designs.
- New equipment additions: True Catalyst Nitro goalie stick and CCM Tacks XR player skates.
