JustWatch to Launch JustWatch TV Streaming Service Using Global Search Data

JustWatch, the digital guide that has spent a decade helping viewers navigate the fragmented streaming landscape, is transitioning from a search tool into a direct content provider. The company has announced the launch of its own streaming service, JustWatch TV, scheduled to debut in October 2026.

The platform’s entry into the streaming market comes with a distinct competitive advantage: access to the search and discovery habits of its 50 million monthly active users. While traditional services often rely on broad demographic trends or high-budget original productions to attract viewers, JustWatch is leveraging its “Demand Intelligence” to identify specific gaps in the market. By analyzing which titles users search for most frequently but cannot find on other services, the platform intends to curate a library specifically around high-demand, “hard-to-find” content.

A Global Hybrid Streaming Model

JustWatch TV is designed as a hybrid service, moving away from the single-tier models common among earlier streamers. At launch, the platform will offer three distinct ways to access content: a free ad-supported tier (AVOD), an individual rental and purchase option (TVOD), and a dedicated ad-free subscription tier. This structure allows the service to compete simultaneously with free platforms like Tubi and premium services like Netflix.

The initial rollout will span 12 international markets, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. To populate its library, JustWatch has secured inaugural content partnerships with several major studios and distributors, including Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street, and Vortex Media.

Closing the Discovery Loop

The primary shift for users is the ability to watch films and shows directly within the JustWatch app or website. Previously, JustWatch acted as a middleman, redirecting users to external apps like Max, Disney+, or Prime Video. JustWatch TV allows for integrated playback, meaning users can search for a title and begin watching it immediately without leaving the ecosystem.

Despite the launch of its own streaming library, JustWatch does not intend to abandon its original purpose. The platform’s core search and discovery engine will remain intact. If a user searches for a title that JustWatch TV does not host, the service will continue to provide links to other external streaming platforms where that content is available. This ensures the tool remains a comprehensive guide even as it begins to compete for its own share of the audience’s viewing time.
