Avengers: Endgame Encore to theaters on September 25, 2026, introducing several new sequences that fundamentally alter the film’s original conclusion. This re-release serves as a narrative bridge to Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. The new footage replaces the original sound-only post-credits tribute with visual setups for Robert Downey Jr.’s debut as Victor von Doom.
Rewriting the Finale: Loki and Captain America
The most significant narrative shift occurs during the film’s final moments. While the original 2019 release concluded with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter sharing their long-awaited dance in silence, the Encore edition features an interruption. As reported by Gizmodo, the Time Variance Authority (TVA) version of Loki appears during the dance to offer Rogers his assistance. This interaction suggests that Captain America’s retirement may be short-lived as the franchise moves toward a multiversal conflict.
The update also addresses the current status of Bruce Banner. A new mid-credits scene, attributed to reports from IGN, shows Doctor Doom arriving at an underground bunker to “collect” Banner. This sequence establishes Banner’s isolation, a plot point expected to be explored further in 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and positions the Hulk as a primary target for Doom’s initial moves.
The Multiverse Collapse and TVA Connections
A new sequence involving TVA monitors provides specific designations for the ongoing decay of the multiverse. The screens display the collision of Universe 10005 and Universe 1127, a visual representation of a “multiverse collapse” that serves as the catalyst for the upcoming Doomsday storyline. This scene replaces the ambiguity of previous phases with concrete data regarding which realities are currently at risk.
The original post-credits audio—the sound of Tony Stark forging his first Iron Man suit—has also been removed. In its place, the Encore version features a visual sequence of Doctor Doom forging his signature metal mask. This transition formally closes the “Iron Man” era of the MCU by mirroring Stark’s beginning with Doom’s ascent.
First Look at Doctor Doom in Action
In addition to the integrated scenes, the re-release includes an exclusive sneak peek of Avengers: Doomsday. According to reports from early international screenings, the footage showcases a direct confrontation between Doctor Doom and Thor. In a display of power that establishes the threat level of the new antagonist, Doom is shown stopping a strike from Thor’s weapon, Stormbreaker, using only two fingers.
The re-release also marks the debut of “Infinity Vision,” a new premium theater format from Disney designed for high-fidelity archival screenings. This technical update accompanies the narrative changes, ensuring the decade-old footage matches the visual standards of the 2026 slate.
