Overwatch 2 update 1.000.103, released on October 6, 2026, marks the launch of Season 5: A Grim Doctrine. This update fundamentally alters the game’s roster by moving Sombra from the Damage category to the Support role and introducing the game’s 54th hero, Doctrine. The patch also initiates a limited-time collaboration with the Solo Leveling franchise.
New Hero: Doctrine
Doctrine joins the roster as a Support hero hailing from Zimbabwe. Armed with an Eternal Scepter and a suite of mechanical drones, Doctrine focuses on battlefield management. As the 54th hero, Doctrine’s kit is designed to provide utility and healing through automated systems, fitting into the “Reign of Talon” narrative arc that defines this season.
Sombra Support Transition
In a significant shift for the character, Sombra has been reclassified as a “Support Tactician.” While she retains her identity as a hacker, her offensive capabilities have been adjusted to suit a utility-focused role. Her Machine Pistol damage has been decreased from 8 to 7 per projectile, though her effective falloff range has been increased to 20 meters to allow for safer positioning.
By shifting Sombra to the Support role, Blizzard is moving her away from solo-assassination gameplay toward a style that prioritizes debuffing enemies and enabling teammates through information and disruption.
Roadhog Rework and Ability Changes
Roadhog has received substantial mechanical updates to his Scrap Gun and defensive utility. The changes aim to make his damage delivery more consistent while providing him with a way to mitigate incoming fire.
- Scrap Gun: Now fires two bursts per volley. To accommodate this higher fire rate, his maximum ammo has been increased from 6 to 12.
- Trash Compactor: A new ability that allows Roadhog to absorb incoming projectiles. After absorbing damage, he can return an explosive counterattack, giving the Tank a proactive defensive tool.
Watchpoint: Grímsvötn and Unvaulted Passes
A new Escort map, Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, is now live. Located in an Icelandic volcanic fissure, the map serves as a key setting for the season’s lore.
The update also introduces “Unvaulted Passes.” This system allows players to select and progress through previous Battle Passes (Seasons 1 through 15) simultaneously with the current Season 5 pass. The Season 5 Battle Pass itself features the Mythic Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang skin and the first Mythic Weapon skin for Lucio, titled “Treblemaker.”
Solo Leveling: Shadow Monarch Collaboration
From October 6 to October 19, 2026, Overwatch 2 is hosting a collaboration with Solo Leveling. The event introduces several themed skins for existing heroes:
- Genji: Sung Jinwoo
- Reaper: Igris
- Anran: Cha Hae-In
- Reinhardt: Iron
- Lifeweaver: Choi Jong-In
Detailed technical adjustments and bug fixes are documented in the official Blizzard patch notes. These changes are now live across all supported platforms.
