The Division 2 Update 2.38 Patch Notes: Red Moon Unleashed and Conflict Changes

The Division 2 Update 2.38 (TUY8S3.2) was released on October 15, 2026, for PC and last-gen consoles. This update introduces a major expansion to PvP progression and launches the “Red Moon Unleashed” seasonal event.

Conflict Progression and Movement Balancing

The primary change for PvP players is the overhaul of Conflict rank progression. The previous rank cap of 100 has been expanded to Rank 200. This change is accompanied by a technical adjustment to character mobility.

Movement Speed bonuses from all sources are now additive. Furthermore, the developers have implemented a hard cap of 20% on total movement speed. This change is intended to stabilize hit registration and prevent extreme mobility builds from dominating encounters.

Red Moon Unleashed and New Equipment

The Red Moon Unleashed event is active starting October 15 and will run through November 3, 2026. This period features specific seasonal activities and rewards, including new gear items and creator collaborations.

  • Lichtenberg Named Classic M1A: This weapon features the Run and Gun talent. When used in PvE, it consumes 100 stacks to grant a 200% bonus to damage and applies the Shock status effect to enemies.
  • Prometheus Terminal: A new vendor hub is now available. Players can find the Prometheus Terminal located directly beneath the helipad at the Base of Operations.
  • Creator Collaborations: Special projects featuring PurePrime, SOLIDFPS, and Widdz are available for players to complete until November 3.

Quality of Life Improvements

Update 2.38 removes friction points in activity loops. Starting an Escalation activity no longer consumes Escalation Tokens. This allows players to engage with the activity more frequently without managing a specific currency gate.

Gameplay Impact Analysis

The shift to additive movement speed and a 20% cap represents a significant shift in the gameplay for both PvE and PvP. Previously, stacking multiple speed buffs could allow players to bypass mechanic timings or disrupt PvP hitboxes. The 20% cap brings all high-mobility builds to a standardized maximum, likely leading to more predictable engagement distances. The removal of Escalation Tokens also streamlines the endgame loop, as players no longer need to farm specific tokens before attempting the activity.
