Fortnite update 5.24, released on October 15, 2026, fundamentally alters the pacing of the Fortnite Reload mode with a major overhaul of the reboot system. The patch, available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, and Mobile, also reintroduces classic locations to the OG rotation and simplifies weapon management with a new automated upgrade feature.
Fortnite Reload Reboot Overhaul
The primary mechanical shift in this update focuses on the Reload game mode, where reboot timers have been significantly increased. Players will now face a 15-second increase per stage, resulting in the following starting timers:
- Duos: 27 seconds
- Squads: 45 seconds
To balance these longer wait times, Epic Games has introduced a performance-based reduction mechanic. For every 30 points of damage a player deals to enemies, their teammate’s reboot timer is reduced by 1 second. This change rewards aggressive play and active engagement while a squad is down members.
Additionally, the “Squid Grounds” map is currently active in the Reload rotation for a limited weekend event, running from October 15 through October 19.
Weapon Upgrades and OG Map Changes
In Battle Royale, the new “Like-for-Like” weapon upgrade feature has been introduced. This quality-of-life change allows players to automatically replace their current weapons with higher-rarity versions of the same firearm upon pickup, streamlining inventory management during fast-paced encounters.
The Fortnite OG rotation has also been updated with the return of two classic points of interest:
- Retail Row: This location returns to the map, replacing Mega Mall.
- Moisty Palms: This rift zone returns to replace Paradise Palms.
Save the World Updates
Save the World players have access to a new encounter called “Challenge the Rift.” In this mission, players can deposit four BluGlo to summon a Mini-Boss. Successfully completing the encounter provides rewards tailored to high-level play.
The Grave Feather Hero also joins the roster, bringing the Ghoulslinger perk. This perk increases the Critical Rating of the Lefty and Righty ability by 15 when used as a Standard perk, or by 45 when used in the Commander slot.
Bug Fixes and Performance
While the update addresses several behind-the-scenes stability issues, a specific fix has been deployed for the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. This fix resolves a visual bug that previously obscured weak point visibility, ensuring that players on the new handheld can accurately track harvesting targets.
