It Takes Two Update 1.700 Patch Notes: Cross-Play and Switch 2 Support

Hazelight Studios has released update 1.700 (version 1.700.000) for It Takes Two on October 15, 2026. This patch introduces full cross-platform play support across all major systems and coincides with the native launch of the title on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Full Cross-Platform Play Support

The primary addition in update 1.700 is the implementation of full cross-platform play. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One can now invite and play with users on the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 version. This change removes previous ecosystem barriers, allowing the cooperative campaign to be played regardless of the specific hardware owned by either player.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch and Technical Specs

Coinciding with this update, a native version of It Takes Two is now available for the Nintendo Switch 2. This version offers significant technical upgrades over the original handheld release:

  • Resolution and Frame Rate: The Nintendo Switch 2 version targets 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second when played in docked mode.
  • Free Upgrade Path: Players who already own the game on the original Nintendo Switch are eligible for a free upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
  • GameShare Support: According to Electronic Arts, Switch 1 players can still play with Switch 2 players using the GameShare feature or if the Switch 2 player chooses to run the original edition of the game.

General Improvements and Stability

Beyond the platform expansions, update 1.700 includes maintenance for all existing versions of the game. Hazelight Studios has implemented general stability fixes and performance improvements across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles to ensure a consistent experience during high-intensity cooperative sequences.

For players on the new hardware, the native Switch 2 version utilizes the increased system resources to maintain a more stable frame rate during split-screen play compared to the original Switch hardware. The Friend’s Pass system remains active, allowing one player who owns the full game to invite a partner to play the entire campaign for free, now across different console families.
