James Corden and Ruth Jones Film Dramatic Water Scenes for The Choir

James Corden and Ruth Jones have reunited for their first major television collaboration since the conclusion of Gavin & Stacey, filming scenes for a new series that recently took a dramatic turn on the East Sussex coast. Production for the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy-drama, titled The Choir, has been filming scenes at Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne.

The incident occurred during a shoot on October 16, 2026, when a floating pontoon used for a scene unexpectedly began to sink. While the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was present to assist during the water-based filming, the moment appeared to be a high-stakes part of the choreographed production.

The new series centers on a community choir and a family reunion.

The eight-part series marks a significant creative homecoming for Corden and Jones, who are both writing and starring in the project. They portray Ben and Lisa, estranged siblings who find themselves brought back together through the efforts of a struggling local choir. This production is the duo’s first significant joint venture since the Gavin & Stacey finale in December 2024.

According to Apple TV+, the series is expected to premiere globally in 2027. The production has also been filming extensively in Lewes, which has been transformed into the fictional town of Alderswyck for the show.

Beyond the lead duo, The Choir features a robust ensemble cast including David Harewood, Jason Watkins and Tom Davis. The series will also include guest appearances from high-profile actors such as Hannah Waddingham and James McAvoy.

The series is expected to balance the duo’s signature comedic style with the dramatic elements of a family reunion centered on a community music group.
