Fan-Made PokeBonk Brings Megabonk-Style 3D Survival to Pokemon

PokeBonk has launched as a high-speed, 3D survival fan game that brings the world of Pokemon into a web browser with a focus on verticality and movement. Unlike many “survivors-like” titles that utilize a top-down 2D perspective, PokeBonk adapts the 3D survival formula established by the 2025 indie hit Megabonk, allowing for a more dynamic and aerial gameplay experience.

The project is currently in an active beta phase. As a nonprofit fan project, the game is free to play and contains no advertisements or in-game purchases.

3D Mechanics and Movement

The defining characteristic of PokeBonk is its movement system, which distinguishes it from the 2D wave-survival genre. Players are not limited to horizontal movement; instead, the game features a dedicated physics system that allows for jumping, dashing, and gliding through environments. This verticality is essential for navigating the terrain and avoiding incoming attacks from wild Pokemon.

The 3D environments, music, and icons were reportedly developed using AI tools, a method the developer utilized to streamline the creation of the game’s expansive world. This technical approach has allowed for the rapid implementation of diverse biomes and atmospheric modes, such as the “Dark Night” and “Quarry” maps.

Evolutions and Legendary Roster

Players begin a run by selecting one of the original Kanto starters—Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. As the run progresses, players can evolve their chosen Pokemon to increase their power. While the game’s foundation is rooted in the Kanto region, the roster has expanded significantly in recent updates. The current version includes powerful legendary Pokemon like Mewtwo and Rayquaza.

To further enhance combat depth, the game supports mid-battle transformations. By collecting Mega Shards during a survival session, players can trigger Mega Evolutions, providing a temporary but significant boost to stats and abilities to clear difficult waves of enemies.

Community Features and Game Modes

PokeBonk includes several distinct game modes:

  • Classic and Survival: The standard modes where players test their endurance against escalating waves of enemies.
  • 1v1 Duel: A competitive mode for players looking to test their skills against others.

With regular updates and a growing roster, PokeBonk continues to expand its browser-based 3D world as it moves through its beta cycle.
