Amazon Rebrands Kindle Unlimited to Kindle+ with AI Audio Integration

Amazon has transitioned existing Kindle Unlimited subscribers to Kindle+. The change marks a shift toward deeper integration of audiobooks and AI-driven narration features while keeping the core mechanics of the service intact for existing readers.

The monthly subscription price for Kindle+ remains $11.99 in the United States, and existing Kindle Unlimited subscribers have been automatically transitioned to the new branding. Users will find their reading history, current borrows, and bookmarks preserved during the transition. According to reported documentation, the service continues to allow users to borrow up to 20 titles at a time from the curated catalog.

AI Narration and the Virtual Voice Expansion

A primary driver behind the rebranding is the expanded inclusion of audiobooks, many of which are powered by Amazon’s “Virtual Voice” technology. This AI-narration program allows for the rapid creation of audio versions of books that were previously available only in text format. For authors enrolled in the KDP Select program, Amazon is offering this AI narration as a free automated service, which then populates the Kindle+ library with more “listenable” content.

This expansion aims to bridge the gap between traditional eBooks and the premium audiobook experience found on Audible. While Audible remains a separate service focusing on professional human-narrated performances, Kindle+ focuses on increasing the sheer volume of titles with audio components through synthetic voices.

Global Availability and Compatibility

The rebranding to Kindle+ is not limited to the United States. The updated service is now active in several major international markets, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and Japan. It is also available in Brazil, India, Italy, Mexico, and Spain.

The transition comes as Amazon continues to streamline its digital services under more uniform branding. While the “Unlimited” moniker has been a staple of the Kindle ecosystem for a decade, the “Plus” suffix aligns the product with other modern subscription tiers in the broader tech landscape. For current users, the most visible change will be the new logo and the increased presence of audio toggle switches on book listing pages within the Kindle+ library.
