A 4-sided consortium develops the first hydrogen production plant in Egypt

Orascom Construction BV Il. CCC announced Orascom Construction joining the green hydrogen alliance with Fertiglobe, Norway’s Scatec and the Egyptian Sovereign Fund, which is developing the first green hydrogen plant in Egypt.

According to the statement from Orascom Construction, the manufacturing facility will consist mainly of in a 100 megawatt PEM electrolyser, which will rank as the world’s largest self-contained electrolyser and the first electrolyser in Egypt, placing this project in first line in the production of green hydrogen.

The green hydrogen produced will be supplied as feedstock to produce up to 90,000 tons of green ammonia at the EBIC Fertiglobe plant located in Ain Sukhna.

Orascom Construction is expected to carry out local works to show the green hydrogen plant during COP 27 in Egypt in November 2022, highlighting Orascom Construction and Egypt’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

This major project highlights Orascom Construction’s ambitions to become a major player in the green hydrogen sector in the region.
