A commander of the Sudanese army: a government of free powers will be formed

After the list of detainees, including ministers and officials of Abdullah Hamdok’s government, rose, the Sudanese army team, Hanafi Abdullah, believed today, Monday, that the arrests corrected the democratic path in the country.

He also confirmed in an interview with Al-Arabiya that a new civilian government will be formed which includes free and fair competencies. He added that the President of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, will consult with politicians to implement democratic transformation

He also made it clear that military moves and arrests were aimed at hindering the implementation of the constitutional document.

Case of emergency?

At the same time, local sources indicated to Al-Arabiya that Al-Burhan will give a speech later today, which will probably declare a state of emergency.

He also indicated the possibility of suspending the constitutional document, until the situation in the country has calmed down.

Interestingly, the capital, Khartoum, witnessed a heavy security deployment and a campaign of raids and arrests of several ministers this morning. The list of detainees included ministers and senior officials from the government and the Sovereignty Council, as well as party officials and governors outside Khartoum.

Security forces also cordoned off Khartoum airport, while all international flights were suspended, as well as internet and communication services.

“Military Domination”

While the Association of Sudanese Professionals has invited all citizens to get off in the square, to express their refusal to any military coup, and to protect the achievements of the revolution.

In statements to Al-Arabiya, sources within the assembly also believed that the military component dominated the country’s foreign policy, economy, and security.

All these rapid developments came after the country witnessed an escalation of tension between military and civilian components, especially after the failed coup attempt last September.
