A delegation from (UNCCT) examines the monitoring and analysis mechanism in “Etidal”

The Secretary General of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology “Etidal”, Dr. -Secretary-General of the United Nations for Counterterrorism, Executive Director of the United Nations Center for Counterterrorism Vladimir Voronkov.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to develop joint cooperation in preventing and combating terrorism and violent extremism.

During the visit, the delegation learned about the monitoring and analysis mechanism, the models that are built and developed internally (Etidal) and the most advanced technologies in this field, listening to a detailed explanation on the commitment of the center in the fight against extremist ideology and its social initiatives.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a pioneer in the field of countering extremism locally and globally, and will continue the his pioneering efforts in sense in the coming period, because extremism is a constant threat. In addition to having tremendous capabilities in the field of counter-terrorism and preventing violent extremism, Etidal Center is one of the excellent examples in this sense in tackling this difficult problem, effectively controlling and preventing it.

He added: “No country is immune from terrorism, so international cooperation is an important factor for success in this matter, and this region is very important to us, in addition to the importance of cooperation with the Kingdom, therefore we intend to establish cooperation with the Kingdom and in the entire region”, emphasizing, at the end of his speech, that the Kingdom is a example to follow in the fight against terrorism.

For his part, Deputy Undersecretary-General and Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office Rafi Grigorian said – during the visit -: “It’s really nice to be here in person and be really excited about some of the things we learned today about ways in where we can take cooperation to the next level and help Many other Member States are trying to address these problems in a way that makes the experience here possible.”

In turn, the director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Center (UNCCT), Jahangir Khan, stressed that (Etidal) is in forefront of both sides, regarding research and development, and especially the efforts of the practical side to prevent violent extremism, in particular by promoting positive discourses that would work on countering extremist ideologies and extremist content, in especially on the Internet.

Regarding the memorandum of understanding between the Center (Etidal) and the United Nations Center for Counterterrorism, Khan said: “We are working on developing cooperation programs that will have a global aspect and a global dimension, especially in the most as important as research and development, and we look forward to developing other programs in this memorandum of understanding.” “.

Interestingly, both the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT) had previously concluded a joint memorandum of understanding between the two sides on the first (April ) 2021 AD; Strengthen cooperation in preventing and combating terrorism and violent extremism and support the efforts of the international community in addressing the scourge of terrorism and preventing the spread of extremist ideas.

At the end of the visit, commemorative photos were taken and Al-Shammari presented a shield (Etidal) as a memento to the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-terrorism, Executive Director of the United Nations Counter-terrorism Centre.
