A Palestinian was killed by Israeli soldiers in West Bank

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said a Palestinian youth was killed on Wednesday by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank after what the Israeli military described as an attempted shooting in a military site.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said Mujahid Mahmoud Hamed, 32, was killed near the town of Silwad.

For its part, the Israeli military said its soldiers carried out a pursuit after shooting from aauto in a military site near the Israeli settlement of Ofra, south of Silwad.

An army statement added: “During the chase, the suspect spotted the soldiers, got off theauto and fired at them. The soldiers responded with live ammunition and neutralized the attacker.”

An AFP reporter at the scene saw Israeli soldiers surround a body a few meters from a white pickup truck. The Army did not mention any casualties in his ranks.

The operation is the latest in a wave of killings in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A State Department spokesman said on Friday that Washington was “deeply concerned about the escalation of violence in West Bank”.
