“A round of escalation” . Demonstrations in Sudan against the Hamdok Al-Burhan agreement

In continuation of the refusal of some civil groups and coordination in Sudan of the agreement signed between Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and army commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the coordination of the Resistance Committees in the state of Khartoum announced today the holding of decentralized demonstrations, Monday, at the beginning of what he called the “revolutionary escalation program” for the month of December to express rejection of the agreement. The political party signed on November 21, as did the rejection of the army decisions issued on October 25.

The announced demonstrations will head to “Sitty” Street in the Sudanese capital, where the committees have indicated their intention to hold a sit-in of a day.

Other convoys will also gather at the “Al-Massa’a” station in North Khartoum, according to the Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath correspondent.

While the Association of Sudanese Professionals and the Forces for Freedom and Change have announced their support for the demonstrations, asking for a declaration to the participation of the Sudanese.

Since the signing of the aforementioned agreement, “Freedom and Change” has repeatedly confirmed its refusal, considering that it perpetuates the authority and dominion of the armed forces over political decision and the demand of civilian government.

The Association of Professionals, which played a leading role in the widespread protests that led to the ouster of former regime president Omar al-Bashir, stressed its rejection of this partnership with the military and the position of the United Nations in support of an agreement too. It condemned UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ comments urging the Sudanese to support the deal that returned Hamdok to the government, “in so that the country can move peacefully towards a true democracy “.

The terms of the agreement

Interestingly, the political agreement signed by the two sides on November 21 (2021) at the presidential palace in Khartoum, brought Hamdok back to his position to form a new government, instead of the previous government that the armed forces announced their dissolution on 25 October.

It also established civilian-military partnership in running the country and stipulated the construction of a unified national army and the restructuring of the committee to dismantle the Bashir regime with a review of its performance.

It also included calling for a dialogue between all political forces to establish the constitutional conference, as well as to expedite the completion of all transitional government institutions.

However, he was criticized by the Hamdok civilian incubator, despite the international reception he received.
