At least 16 people died when a passenger bus collided with a parked truck on a highway in the Sudanese city of Omdurman early Tuesday, police said.
According to a police statement, the bus went off the road and collided with the truck, which was parked in Omdurman, the twin city of the capital, Khartoum.
Another 19 were injured
Police also said 19 other people were injured in the incident, adding that the bus was bound for Khartoum from El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.
Ambulances rushed to the scene to transfer the injured to Omdurman hospital, while the bodies of the dead were taken to the hospital morgue.
No news on the cause of the bus derailment.
Traffic accidents are common in Sudan and are often the result of poor road maintenance and poor enforcement of traffic rules. Thousands of Sudanese die every year in road accidents in Sudan.
