Abu Thaneen leads Kingdom delegation to International Labor Organization meeting.

His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for Employment, Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Abu Thanain, led the Kingdom delegation that participated in the proceedings of the 17th Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the International Organization del Lavoro, which began its work today in Singapore.

Meeting participants will discuss the Director-General’s report, entitled “Renewed Social Justice for a Human-Centered Recovery”, as well as public sessions and private who will discuss various topics focused on social protection.

Dr. Abuthnain delivered a speech on behalf of the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf during the plenary session of the meeting, in which touched the enthusiasm of the GCC countries to ensure the implementation of the rights of the parties to the employment relationship, safety and health at work, and limit any exploitation or practices related to forced labor or human trafficking.

He added: “The GCC countries have set a clear example during the Covid-19 crisis, as they have exerted all their energies to protect all workers without exception or discrimination, facilitate their return to their home countries and provide free vaccinations and health care.”

Your Excellency stressed that GCC countries are currently developing, strengthening and expanding social protection systems, in particularly with changing patterns of work and the impact of the pandemic, in cooperation with the International Labor Organization represented by the Regional Bureau for Arab States, explaining the importance of the regional meeting of the organization for the review and exchange of experiences and expertise among the countries of the region.

Interestingly, the regional meeting of the organization is held every four years, and the number of countries participating in this meeting has reached 47 member countries of the Asia-Pacific region of the International Labor Organization. It should also be noted that the International Labor Organization was founded in 1919 and aims to ensure decent work for all by promoting social dialogue, social protection and job creation in compliance with standard international labor standards. The organization also provides technical support to more than 100 countries to help achieve these goals.
