Adil Ray: GMB host explodes at 'obsession' of those desperate for June 21 freedom

Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray, 47, has taken to Twitter to vent his frustration at the general public’s “obsession” with the remaining coronavirus restrictions lifting on June 21. The newsreader argued that following reports of new variants of Covid being located, a “further delay” would be deemed “sensible” to stop the virus from spreading, while questioning what it was that people were so desperately looking forward to doing.

Tweeting in view of his 96,000 followers, Adil made his view on the subject very clear.

The star admitted to being baffled by the date set for the lifting of restrictions, as well as referencing the new coronavirus variants that have been located in the country.

He said: “I’m puzzled by the deadly obsession with June 21st?

“What is it that we badly need in 3 weeks time?”

The broadcaster went on to add that a “further delay” seemed sensible in light of the current figures.

Adil continued to ask his followers: “No more masking wearing in a confined taxi with new variants around?

“Queuing up 4 deep at the bar alongside many unvaccinated?

“Surely on balance, a further delay is sensible?” the star finished.

The GMB presenter’s tweet has currently received over 6,000 likes in support of his call to delay the lifting of restrictions.

Agreeing with the star, one social media user wrote: “100% agree.

“Everything is open, we can travel the country (within reason,) meet friends and family, work, vaccinated, to rush the end would be a huge mistake. We knew we were in it for the long haul.

“Let’s all appreciate how far we’ve come and not throw it all away!!” they added.

However, not everyone saw eye to eye with the TV host’s view and one Twitter user cited holidays abroad and trips to the pub as reasons to end the current restrictions.

They wrote: “Because people need a holiday abroad. As for going to the pub, life simply isn’t worth living if you can’t vomit into your shoes on a Friday night.”

“People can choose on June 22nd whether to follow govt advice.” (sic)

They ended their comment: “If they do, the consequences are on them as much as the govt”. (sic)

Another of his followers echoed the idea of booking a holiday’s abroad which caught the presenter’s attention.

Answering the newsreader’s question, they wrote: “The date to book a holiday and have something to look forward to”.

After spotting the comment, Adil replied admitting that he to would like an exotic holiday abroad, but would settle for a staycation he if meant he was “saving lives”.

He wrote: “you can look forward to any holiday in the UK right now. I would love to go to Barbados but I’ll settle for Brighton if I’m saving lives. Be grateful for what we have”, followed by a red heart emoji.
