The Abu Dhabi Oil Company (ADNOC) announced the discovery of a new natural gas field in Abu Dhabi with reserves ranging from one trillion to 1.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
The Emirates News Agency said this “big discovery” follows an initial discovery in smaller reservoirs announced in February last year, “bringing the combined reserves of both discoveries to approximately 2.5 to 3.5 trillion standard cubic meters.” feet of gas.
The agency said ADNOC announced the second discovery of natural gas resources in the first exploration well under the offshore block 2 concession in Abu Dhabi, which is operated by the Italian energy company Eni.
He added that the concession was awarded in 2019 to a consortium led by an Italian company, including Thailand’s state-owned exploration and production company BTT, as part of the first round of ADNOC competitive bidding.
The agency quoted Yasser Saeed Al Mazrui, CEO of ADNOC Exploration, Development and Production, as saying this “important discovery” highlights the continued success achieved by the ADNOC program, adding, “We are pleased with what Eni and BTT have done. “We are committed to exploring deep reservoir resources with promising potential. We look forward to continuing to work and collaborate with all of our strategic partners to sustainably harness the enormous potential of Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon resources.”
The latest discovery is in addition to what ADNOC announced in May 2022 about the discovery of about 100 million barrels of oil in Concession No. 3 in Abu Dhabi, which is operated by Occidental, and also announced in December 2021. that the discovery of up to one billion boe in the Onshore Block 4 concession, operated by Inpex, has been confirmed.
