Afghan leader Hekmatyar survived assassination attempt and attackers killed

An explosion occurred near the mosque where Gulbuddin Hekmatyar gives his Friday sermon in the city of Kabul.

Local sources in Kabul say an explosion has occurred in a mosque in the Dar Al-Aman district of Kabul’s sixth district.

An Islamic Party source said Gulbuddin Hekmatyar survived the attack, killing the attackers and wounding two members of the party leader’s guard.

Sources said gunmen tried to enter Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s office after the blast but were killed by his bodyguards. Two of Hekmatyar’s bodyguards were also said to have been injured.

A blast that hit the Al-Iman mosque in Kabul, which is affiliated with the Islamic Party led by Afghan warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, was claimed by several sources to have killed two of the attackers, as well as killing one of Hekmatyar’s guards and wounding another .

He added that Hekmatyar preaches and leads worshipers every Friday at the same mosque. Recently, in his Friday sermons, he called for a new elected government. He has criticized some of the Taliban’s decisions and attacked Afghan politicians.
