Afghanistan Taliban decree requiring women to wear the burqa

Supreme commander of Afghanistan and the Taliban, Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, ordered women to wear burqas on Saturday in public, in one of the most severe restrictions imposed on women since the movement took power in Afghanistan last year.

“They should wear the chadri (another name for the burqa) as per tradition,” reads a decree issued by Akhundzada published by the Taliban authorities in Kabul.
