Shearer said the aviation industry is seeing early signs of improving demand for wide-body aircraft.

“The market (narrow-body) actually recovered, “Shearer told Reuters, adding that Airbus was in negotiations with various airlines for future orders.

On the industrial side, Shearer said Airbus faces uncertainty about supply chains, but remains confident in its ability to increase narrow-body aircraft production by 50% over the next three years compared to its current production of more than 50 aircraft. per month.

He added: “Reviving demand for larger and longer-haul aircraft can pull this market segment out of recession and may even face it a shortage it hasn’t seen in several years.”

Shearer was speaking before the International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual meeting in the Qatari capital, Doha, which coincides with a dispute between Airbus and Qatar Airways over a malfunction of the A350 aircraft.

Qatar has grounded more than 20 aircraft, saying gaps in lightning protection under the roof lining raise unanswered questions about the plane’s safety and awaits a more in-depth analysis of the situation.

The European aviation regulator announced last week that the planes were safe, but the Qatari regulator grounded the planes when the malfunction occurred.
