Al-Burhan: The civil authority in Sudan must respect military professionalism

The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said that the civil authority in Sudan must respect military professionalism.

He said in a speech at the signing ceremony of the “framework agreement” in Khartoum, let us transform the army in a constitutional institution subject to the constitution and the law, indicating that the Sudanese military institution will not use its authority for private interest.

He also continued, “The Sudanese Army must be in its barracks and parties in the political process.”

He also clarified that approving the Sudanese framework agreement does not mean agreeing with one of the parties.

Furthermore, Al-Burhan indicated that local and international threats have faced Sudan in the recent period, indicating that civilian and military forces in Sudan they were in disharmony which adversely affected the situation in the country.

The withdrawal of the military establishment from the political scene is necessary

For his part, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, vice president of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, said today, Monday, that the withdrawal of the military establishment from the political scene is necessary to establish a sustainable democratic system.

He clarified in a televised speech, after the signing of a framework agreement between the military and civilian components, that political forces and parties must undertake to “abandon the use of the military institution to achieve power”.

The vice president of the Sovereign Council said that the framework agreement aims to “establish a new transitional period in which we avoid the mistakes that accompanied the previous period”, describing the signing of the agreement as “a new and great stage in the history of Sudan”.

Daglo stressed the importance of acknowledging and apologizing to all for what he described as “the violence and mistakes of the state towards in various historical periods”.

Restoration of civilian rule

In turn, a spokesman for the Forces for Freedom and Change in Sudan said the framework agreement signed today means “restoring civilian rule” in the country.

“The agreement aims to unite the Sudanese people under the banner of a project to establish democratic civilian authority,” al-Wathiq al-Bireer said in televised statements.

It should be noted that the Sudanese Sovereignty Council signed today, with political parties and civilian forces, the framework agreement which paves the way for a transitional period which will last 24 months, starting from the date of appointment of a prime minister chosen by the ” revolutionaries” who signed the agreement.
