Al-Sisi to Hariri: Egypt is keen to get Lebanon out of its suffering

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to preserve the capacity of the Lebanese state, and to extricate it from the situation that he is currently suffering from, through all Lebanese leaders upholding the national interest.

During a meeting with President Al-Sisi, today, Wednesday, with Saad Hariri, in charge of heading the Lebanese government, in the presence of Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Abbas Kamel, head of General Intelligence, Al-Sisi called on Lebanese leaders to uphold the national interest, settle disputes, and accelerate efforts to form an independent government capable of dealing with current challenges. Preserving the capabilities of the brotherly Lebanese people and the unity of their national fabric.

Al-Sisi renewed Egypt’s firm stance towards strengthening close ties of cooperation with Lebanon, expressing sincere wishes to Saad Hariri in forming the new government, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Lebanese people to achieve security and stability, and stressed Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support and assistance to overcome the crises facing Lebanon , Especially the repercussions left by both the Beirut Port explosion and the Coronavirus pandemic.

For his part, Saad Hariri affirmed Lebanon’s pride in the close historical relations between the two sister states, which are based on solidarity and brotherhood, expressing his country’s appreciation for the Egyptian effort in supporting Lebanon in all fields, especially by providing all forms of aid and assistance to Lebanon following the repercussions of the accident. The port of Beirut, as well as a basic pillar in preserving stability in it and the Arab region as a whole, praising the current Egyptian experience based on the priority of economic and development success, and considering it as a model to be emulated in the countries of the region.

Saad Hariri praised Egypt’s tireless and sincere efforts to mobilize international support for Lebanon at various levels in light of the continuing difficult challenges facing the Lebanese people, especially at the political, economic and humanitarian levels.

Ambassador Bassam Rady, the official spokesman for the Presidency of Egypt, explained that the meeting dealt with reviewing the overall Lebanese political scene, in addition to discussing the most prominent developments in the regional situation, as well as ways to strengthen the existing bilateral cooperation frameworks between the two brotherly countries.
