Al-Wasel: The Kingdom supports efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon

Today, Wednesday, the representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, expressed deep concern about the failure of the checks carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Al-Wasel added that “Iran’s lack of transparency vis-à-vis the International Atomic Energy Agency violates the United Nations Charter”, stressing that “transparency is necessary in the peaceful use of nuclear energy”.

In his speech at a conference on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons organized by the United Nations, Al-Wasel indicated that Saudi Arabia supports all efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Al-Wasel said that “Iran’s practices increase the risks of nuclear proliferation”, just as “Israel’s failure to join the treaty increases the risks of nuclear proliferation”.

He stressed “the need to tackle nuclear proliferation in Middle East “, since” the danger of nuclear proliferation threatens the Middle East and the world “, considering that” the Middle East free from nuclear weapons is a collective responsibility “.

The Saudi representative to the United Nations also expressed the Kingdom’s support for the expansion of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
