Great Britain asks Mikati to take concrete action
Across the Atlantic, British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab said on Twitter on Friday that Britain supports the new Lebanese government led by Sunni businessman Mikati, but that concrete action must be seen. .
Raab added: “The formation of a new Lebanese government must be followed by the implementation of urgent reforms, the transparent conclusion of an investigation into the tragic attack on the port of Beirut and the holding of elections at the right time next year”.
The new Lebanese government saw the light on Friday, after more than a year of emptiness. The Lebanese presidency said in a statement that the prime minister-designate Mikati and the country’s president Michel Aoun signed a decree to form a new government in the presence of parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri.
There has been no effective government for more than a year in Lebanon, in one moment in which the country is witnessing a worsening of the collapse of the economic situation.
After the formation of the new Lebanese government, Mikati said during a press conference: We need the Arab world … and we will knock on the door of every Arab country for help.
