Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said on Friday that the Iranian regime had repeatedly demonstrated its “total contempt” for life and human rights, stressing it would not escape punishment.

Jolie’s statements came during her meeting with the families of the victims of the Ukrainian plane shot down by the Revolutionary Guards in early 2020, and most of its passengers were Canadian citizens.

A statement from Canada’s foreign ministry said Canada and its partners in the international coordination group regarding the Ukrainian plane casualties, which also includes Sweden, Ukraine and Britain, were continuing to work to hold Iran accountable. of the downing of the plane.

Late last month, Canada, Sweden, Britain and Ukraine issued a joint statement asking Iran to submit to arbitration over the Ukrainian plane case.

The International Coordination Group said in the joint statement that it has taken concrete steps to ensure progress in its efforts to hold Iran accountable and reach the stage of conflict resolution.

Interestingly, on the morning of January 8, 2020, the Ukrainian passenger plane was shot down shortly after taking off from Tehran International Airport by two missiles fired by the Revolutionary Guards, killing all 176 people on board, who were Iranian, Canadian, Swedish, Afghan and other nationals.
