An angry mob killed a police officer who shot a 5-year-old girl at a checkpoint in the capital of Cameroon city on Thursday.

The death of the young girl mainly caused outrage in the whole African country in the city of Buea. protesters also took the girls body to the regional governor office in protest. Gunfire could also being heard in the city.

The shooting involving the police stemmed from an emerging civil conflict in cameroon, with secessionists die get furious over the inequalities between the country’s French speakers population and the English-speaking one population that makes up two main regions, CNN reported.

Tensions have remained high for the last five years and secessionists remain campaign for An new state called Ambazonia.

More than 3,000 people have been murdered in the conflict since it broke out.

In the case of the girls death, Cameroon government officials said the driver within in the vehicle didn’t stop at the traffic control and tried to avoid the cops who asked him to stop.

“In an inappropriate response, not adapted to the circumstances and clearly not in relation to the irreverent” behavior of the driver, one of the gendarmes … fired warning shots in to immobilize the vehicle”, a statement from the government said.

“While little Caro Louise Ndialle, a young pupil of about 5, who used to be on board the saying vehicle, was fatally shot in the head.”

Angry with the incident, a mob gathered around the officer and killed him.

The area’s regional governor promised accountability.

“How come a child? on her way to school was murdered?” Governor Bernard Okala Bilai said. “Rest assured that die who has it will pay. It’s an atrocity.”
