Ankara bombs northern Syria again. 3 Turkish security forces injured

Ankara renewed its shelling of northern Syria today, according to the Kurdish news agency Hawar, while a new Turkish shelling targeted areas in the Syrian countryside of Aleppo on Sunday evening.

The agency said Turkey had renewed its shelling of al-Shahba district and Shara district in Afrin canton.

In addition, 3 members of the Turkish security forces (one soldier and two policemen) were injured in a rocket attack in the Turkish province of Kilis, adjacent to the border with Syria.

Turkish news agency Anatolia reported that the missile hit aarea near a border crossing, but did not provide further details.

These developments came after the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) promised in before responding to the air strikes launched by Ankara on its positions today, Sunday.

And the Turkish Defense Ministry announced today that the Air Force carried out raids on Kurdish militia sites in northern Syria and northern Iraq, which led to the destruction of 89 targets, after a bombing in Istanbul a week ago which killed six people.

He has declared in a statement that the attacks targeted bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Turkey considers a wing of the PKK.

He also indicated that the attacks targeted Qandil, Asos and Hakurk in Iraq, and Kobani, Tal Refaat, Al-Jazeera and Derik in northern Syria.

He added that 89 targets were destroyed, including shelters, tunnels and ammunition depots, as well as that “the so-called leaders of the terrorist organization were among those who were neutralized”.

11 civilians were killed

A spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces said the Turkish attacks destroyed infrastructure, including grain silos, a power plant and a hospital. Farhad Shami, head of the media center of the SDF, wrote on Twitter that 11 civilians, including a journalist, were killed.

The Syrian Democratic Forces have promised in a statement that “these attacks will not go unanswered”.

Responsible for the explosion in Istanbul

The Turkish government held Kurdish militants responsible for the explosion in Istiklal Street in Istanbul on November 13, killing 6 and injuring more than 80. No party claimed responsibility for the explosion.

While the PKK and the Syrian Democratic Forces have denied any responsibility.

Interestingly, Ankara frequently launches air strikes in Northern Iraq and in Syria, as part of a long-term campaign against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been waging an insurrection against the Turkish state since 1984. Turkey, the United States and the European Union classify it as a terrorist organization.
