Anthony Joshua is urged to allow Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk decide over the undisputed heavyweight championship by promoter Frank Warren.
Undefeated duo Fury and Usyk have every major belt in the division after their exceptional victories over Deontay Wilder and Joshua, but a clash between them, to decide over the rightful number 1, is highly unlikely within the next year.
Joshua has triggered a rematch clause to again fight Usyk, expected in spring 2022, to get the IBF, WBA and WBO belts back.
“He shouldn’t continue” with it,” told WBC champion Fury’s in UK based promoter Warren air sports over Joshua.
“It’s his choice.
“If he knocks on it” on the head, it opens the door for us to do the unification [Fury vs Usyk].
“Let AJ have a warm-up fight. He needs a winning mentality before he gets started [a rematch with Usyk].
“Maybe he’s fighting the winner [of Fury vs Usyk] that’s still a big fight.”
Warren said over fury vs Usyk: “They have similar skills. Tyson wouldn’t fight it like AJ did it. Tyson would use its physical properties, its size and scope, and would win the fight.”
Joshua and Fury came close to an undisputed title fight until the conversations broke dramatically down rather this year.
Fury vs Usyk is now the dream fight for the divisionWarren says.
“Absolutely, but it can’t happen because they… made a resit with AJ,” Warren said.
“I think Usyk will beat him again.
“If there had been 20 seconds left, Usyk AJ would have stopped.
“He wobbled it early and almost… took it out. Next time he will enjoy knocking on AJ over.
“The only way AJ can beat him by doing what Wilder did – forcing himself.
“I see AJdie not win rematch.”
Usyk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk previously told Sky Sports of their plan to face Fury: “It will be after Usyk beats AJ. in the resit.
Wanted of Usyk was impressed by? how Fury defeated Wilder, Krassyuk said: “He was. And he was impressed with how the boxers fought without showing boxing skills. They tried [badly hurt] each other.”
Dillian Whyte advised Joshua: “The only thing he needs to change is his mindset.
“Forget trying to please people and impress people. you’re not going out-box it.
“You are a bigstrong guy. take the fight to Usyk!”
Whyte will be established as Fury’s mandatory WBC challenger belt if he beats Otto Wallin on 30 October.
Warren said: “If Whyte is beaten by Wallin, which could happen, they will match again. It could be a mess again.”
Whyte had said: “Hopefully the WBC now enforces my position and Fury has no choice.
“It’s a huge British fight, an important fight for Britain.”
Furys last have been five fights in America and Warren said over a homecoming fight in UK: “I would love it if that happened, but it will be his choice.”
Sky Sports’ Carl Froch had speculated that Fury could choose to met to retire after enduring his classic rivalry with Wilder.
“If he wants, he can,” Warren said. “But he likes boxing. He doesn’t think about that.
“He will be a decision over what he wants to do because he in the driver’s seat.
“When He Fights” on, it will be against who he chooses to fight.
“He Will Choose” who he gets in the ring with because he is the man. He is the best heavyweight of his generation.
“He went to Germany to beat Wladimir Klitschko. who was the heavyweight at the time of his generation. He pricked up his ears off until show one facet of it.
“He’s going to America three times in [Wilder’s] back yard and beats the hardest puncher out there.
“I can’t think of any british fighter who did that.
“About four of die fights he was the underdog. He is written off against Klitschko and against Wilders in their first and second fights.
“Joe Calzaghe? ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed? But Tyson is special.”
