Anthony Rendon Free Service Rumors: Angels agree huge deal with third baseman

The Angels are set to secure the top player in the 2019-20 MLB free agent market after agreeing on Wednesday to a reported $ 245m seven-year deal with third-year King Anthony Rendon.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan cited the terms of the contract. Los Angeles closed the deal one day after defending top market standout Gerrit Cole.

Rendon, 29, is set to join the Angels after playing an integral role in the national championship. Washington owner Mark Lerner said before the Winter Meetings that it was unlikely the club would re-sign him and MVP Stephen Strasburg. The Nats later agreed to a record seven-year, $ 245 million settlement with Strasbourg. Cole’s announcement of a nine-month, $ 324 million contract with the Yankees broke that mark.
