Apple’s Vision Pro Mixed Reality Headset Production Targets Scaled Back, Report Says
Apple significantly scales back production targets for Vision Pro headset
Apple has reportedly reduced its production targets for its highly anticipated mixed reality headset, Vision Pro. The headset, announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, will be priced at $3,499 when it launches in the US in early 2024.
Key Details:
- Billed as Apple’s “first spatial computer”, Vision Pro will also be available in more countries next year.
- Initially, Apple aimed to sell one million units in the first year, but this goal has been adjusted due to manufacturing challenges and the complexity of the design.
- Luxshare, the Chinese manufacturer, is reported to be the sole assembler of the headset.
- Next year, Luxshare plans to produce fewer than 400,000 units.
- Apple has requested components for approximately 130,000 to 150,000 units in 2024.
- In addition, Apple is collaborating with Samsung and LG to develop future generations of the headset, including a more affordable version.
About Vision Pro:
“Vision Pro creates an infinite canvas for apps that goes beyond the limitations of a conventional display. It introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface that can be controlled through natural and intuitive inputs like a user’s eyes, hands, and voice,” according to Apple.
The headset features visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system. This allows users to interact with digital content as if it were physically present in their space.
Vision Pro boasts an ultra-high-resolution display system with 23 million pixels across two screens. It also utilizes custom Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design to provide a real-time immersive experience.
