In addition, the ministry added that Yerevan also lost control of two military sites due to these clashes, while Azerbaijan captured 12 Armenian soldiers, according to Agence France-Presse.

In parallel, the President of the European Council Charles Michel called on Armenian and Azerbaijani officials to a “fair reduction of the escalation” and a “global ceasefire”.

In a statement, the French Foreign Ministry also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan and called on the two countries to respect a ceasefire.

These clashes erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan after an escalation lasting several weeks, which raised fears of the resumption of a bloody war that took place last year between these two rival countries in the Caucasus, in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
