On the other hand, Armenia also announced that it had inflicted “heavy casualties” on Azerbaijani forces. The statement added: “The battles continue and their intensity has not diminished.”
Armenia also claimed that Azerbaijani forces use “artillery and weapons of various calibers”.
In parallel, the President of the European Council Charles Michel called on Armenian and Azerbaijani officials to a “fair reduction of the escalation” and a “global ceasefire”.
In a statement, the French Foreign Ministry also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan and called on the two countries to respect a ceasefire.
These clashes erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan after an escalation lasting several weeks, which raised fears of the resumption of a bloody war that took place last year between these two rival countries in the Caucasus, in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
