Arsenal signed the Porto Vieira midfielder

LONDON: Arsenal, club of the English Premier League, announced today Tuesday that it has completed the signing of attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto on a long-term contract. Porto said last week that they have agreed a € 40 million ($ 42.11 million) deal with Arsenal for the transfer of Vieira. Porto added that Arsenal will pay in in principle 35 million euros, with another five million to be paid in based on the achievement of certain objectives by Vieira with the club Londoner. The 22-year-old scored seven goals and sent 16 assists in 39 games in all competitions last season, when Porto won the league and cup braces. He also represented Portugal in the under-21 team, scoring 13 goals in 21 games. “Fabio is a very creative player who will bring with him high levels of performance and add diversity to our performances offensive”said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in a note. Vieira’s arrival comes after Brazilian striker Marquinhos and American goalkeeper Matt Turner joined Arsenal during the summer transfer window. Arsenal finished fifth in the English Premier League last season and lost their last Champions League qualifying spot directly to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. (Reuters)
