Assassin’s Creed Codename RED: Potential Release Date in 2024 Revealed

Assassin’s Creed Codename Red targeting a 2024 release

In a LinkedIn post earlier this year, Ubisoft business development and brand partnership executive Arisa Lagunzad said the company was looking for a Japanese partner to work on “the biggest blockbuster of 2024”.

Since the post was spotted today by Access The Animus, it has seemingly been edited to remove mention of 2024, but LinkedIn’s translation of the original Japanese text still reads: “We are seeking sponsoring partner for this title Assassin’s Creed Codename RED for next year.”

Translations of the original text in Google Translate and online translation tool DeepL also both appear to confirm that the action RPG will be released in 2024.

This lines up with a February report from Insider Gaming, which claimed that Codename Red is scheduled for release next year. Its sources claimed that the game was in good shape, and that it would feature two playable characters and have a strong focus on stealth.

Ubisoft revealed the future roadmap for the Assassin’s Creed franchise last September, when it announced Codename Red as one of six upcoming series entries.

It said the next two flagship games after this year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage, codenamed Red and Hexe, would be released as part of the new Infinity franchise hub, the live service initiative announced in 2021.

Red, which is being made by Odyssey developer Ubisoft Quebec and has the same creative director, will begin what Ubisoft is calling “period three” in the Assassin’s Creed series, which has sold over 200 million copies since it launched in 2007, according to its publisher.

“We’ll announce the dates a bit later on, but we wanted to mark a change technologically and gameplay-wise as we’re moving to a fully next-gen – or current gen, I guess we call it – with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X,” series boss Marc-Alexis Cote told AsumeTech in a future Assassin’s Creed games interview at the time.
