Asyad Group offers a partnership for the development, operation and management of the Port of Suwaiq for the private sector

Omani Asyad Group announced the issuance of a wish expression document for the local and international private sector in order to reach joint cooperation to develop, operate and manage the Suwaiq port in North Al Batinah governorate to continue its role of commercial multi-port at destination according to standard international on an area of ​​600,000 square meters.

The expansion aims to enable the port to deal with large ships, and thus open international shipping lines to handle all types of generic, liquid and bulk cargo, livestock and vehicles, with an operational capacity of 10 million tons per year. .

Asyad Ports CEO, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Abri, said that this step is important to pave the way for all companies to express their desire to collaborate in this important project, which will allow Suwaiq port to move on to other stages to select partners and push the process of designing and building deep moorings in in line with the trend of increasing the port capacity and strengthening the competitiveness of the port at the regional level and making it a logistics center and regional hub for regional and international markets, and working to meet the needs of the growing local economy in the Sultanate, in particularly in the food safety sector.

He stressed that the development phase of the Port of Suwaiq falls within the strategic objectives that the Asyad Group is working on to achieve regional leadership and help make the Sultanate a global logistics center and hub for connecting various global markets, and that this targeted expansion was born as an inevitable result of the continuous growth witnessed year after year by the port, which reflects the continuous growth of the commercial and economic sectors in the Sultanate, which positively contributes to fostering the growth of the nautical and commercial movement by attracting investments and stimulating the labor market , as it is hoped that Suwaiq Port will carry out a logistical twinning with Sohar Port in the handling of various types of goods.

He stressed that the expansion of the Suwaiq port complies with the group’s vision to support the private sector and provide growth opportunities for local investors by participating in the provision of support services within the port and thearea logistics, and will also strengthen the aspirations of the Asyad Group to support emerging companies at the local market level operating in the export and import sector, by creating specialized maritime agencies in customs clearance for navigation.

The CEO of Asyad Ports Company explained that the terms of the expression of interest document for the Suwaiq Port Expansion Project aims to increase the capacity of the port with a capacity of 5 million tons per year of miscellaneous cargo, 5 million tons of bulk materials and the construction of a series of multipurpose berths with a depth of 14 meters to accommodate large ships.

Al-Abri indicated that the Asyad Group is moving forward in strengthening the logistics system in the Sultanate by introducing qualitative initiatives and measures aimed at increasing the efficiency of the logistics sector and improving the port system by increasing the competitiveness of its services according to the highest standard to be key stations in the global supply chain system.

It should be noted that the date of receipt of the requests for expression of interest to compete in the tender has been extended until December 6, 2021 AD, by receiving the tender document from the main building of Asyad or through the website web of the group.

The port of Al-Suwaiq is doubly important due to its strategic position between the Governorate of Muscat and the port of Sohar, to constitute a vital corridor for the arrival of local goods and food products to the neighboring regional markets, the markets of the subcontinent Indian and Horn of Africa, as well as its proximity to the inland port of Khazaen, which began its operations earlier this month, facilitating the import, export and re-export of all goods, and accelerate trade and the movement of goods, containers standard and refrigerated containers to and from the Sultanate.
