Atomic energy: A nuclear research facility in Kharkiv was damaged

The United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday that an examination of a nuclear research facility in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv found it had been severely damaged after a Russian bombing, but there were no indications that radiation was emitted or nuclear material had been converted.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said in a statement that a team of the IAEA visited the Kharkiv Institute of Technology from 8 to 10 November, after Ukraine said in June that Russia had bombed the facility.

Grossi added: “Although the radiation levels were normal, the extent of the damage to the nuclear research facility was terrible and shocking, and even worse than expected.”

Previously, the Ukrainian army accused Russian forces of firing phosphorus bombs on Kharkiv and destroying both military and civilian infrastructure.

It is interesting to note that the Russian military operation launched on the lands of the western neighbor has reached the eighth month, with no signs of an immediate solution appearing on the horizon, reassuring the two sides and pushing them to the negotiating table, especially since the ‘West alignment has also reached a climax between the two camps.
