Avengers 5 exclusive: Alan Silvestri on if he’ll return as composer after Avengers Endgame

Avengers 5 is yet to be officially announced, but Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that plans are in motion for the MCU’s next crossover epic. Express.co.uk recently caught with Avengers Endgame composer Alan Silvestri to ask if he’s involved in Avengers 5. The Hollywood music legend not only wrote the famous Avengers theme but also composed the music for three out of four of those movies.

During our exclusive interview, Silvestri admitted: “I would always be completely open to an invitation from those folks [at Marvel].

“As you know I did Captain America [The First Avenger] and the first Avengers.”

However, Silvestri didn’t compose the music of Avengers Age of Ultron, even though they used his famous theme.

The 71-year-old said: “They actually did [use my Avengers theme], but they didn’t have me. But that’s okay.”

Silvestri continued: “So they had me for Avengers 1, 3 and 4. For all the crazy expectations and pressure on those guys…and by that, I’m primarily talking about Kevin Feige and The Russo Brothers.

“They had an insane amount of pressure on them. For me, it was an amazingly great creative environment to work in.

“They were the most lovely, respectful, collaborative folks, so I would always be open to being invited to go back for whatever. But today I’ve not gotten that call.”

The Hollywood composer has been working on the music for Back to the Future the musical, which recently opened in London’s West End.

Silvestri famously composed the Back to the Future theme, before being asked to include it in his score for Ready Player One a couple of years ago.

Coincidently this was also around the time he was working on Avengers Endgame, which has some time travelling similarities to Back to the Future Part II, not to mention references to it in the script.

The Hollywood music legend told us: “And they all happened around the same time and I was like, what’s happening here?!

“With Mr Spielberg, I remember the first time I sat and watched the [Ready Player One] movie and I said, ‘So in this part Steven you want this like that in Back to the Future?’”

Spielberg, who executive produced the time travel trilogy, replied: “No, not exactly. I don’t want it to like Back to the Future, I want Back to the Future!”

Silverstri added that it was a fun homage to director Robert Zemeckis and Back to the Future.

Ready Player One featured the DeLorean time machine alongside the Zemeckis Cube that turns back time for everyone except its user.

Back to the Future the Musical is playing now at the Adelphi Theatre in London and tickets can be booked here.
