Axiom Verge 2 is about to change in 2020
Thomas Happ Games makes a sequel to the 2015 hit game, but it sounds a bit like a prequel as it explores the origins of the universe of the series. The game was unveiled today by a short trailer that debuted during the Nintendo Indie World video.
Axiom Verge is a Metroid-like series that is unique in that it was created by one person, Tom Happ. He takes care of art, programming, music and animation and thus the long development time between the first entry and the sequel.
In the Axiom Verge 2 trailer, we are once again invited to open up new avenues in a vast side-scrolling world with a variety of abilities. We see the new protagonist explode to blow up a rock wall, and also let go of a small alien to navigate through a narrow gap. The trailer ends with the release date in autumn 2020.
Axiom Verge received a high rating of 9.25 out of 10 from Game Informer’s Bryan Vore, who praised the nostalgic game. “During my time with Axiom Verge, I was always excited to explore foreign worlds, get groundbreaking power-ups, and fire a new weapon for the first time,” he said. “Almost everything you record feels meaningful, as opposed to collecting too many rocket extensions that you do not even need.” I warmly welcome Tom Happ’s first solo attempt, and it’s incredible that he has every component of the game I’ll wait until he has a follow-up. “
